Launched in September 2012, Speed2Succeed (S2S) was created by Sheree Bright, Andi Jones and Sue Bartlett ; each of whom brings different ideas and experience to the table. With a shared vision for the barrel racing industry within Australia, the ladies want to see more competitors join the sport, more money and sponsorships, and more of Australia’s talented riders having the chance to compete where barrel racing is on the world stage; the United States of America.
Having seen the growth of barrel racing in the USA and the benefits it has brought to the horse industry, they are joining forces with some of the top US trainers, competitors and promoters. Sue and her husband, Greg, travel to the US a couple of times a year and have two daughters who live and compete in the States. The contacts they have made with some of the best in the industry and the access they have to these experts’ knowledge and experience will benefit Speed2Succeed’s events. This is what inspired them to contribute to the expansion and professionalism of barrel racing in our country.
All three ladies have competed in barrel racing for many years and have experience in every aspect of horsemanship from breeding to training and competing. Andi, together with her husband Steve, predominantly breed and train horses on their farm in Kilcoy, Queensland. They have bred, trained and sold some of the best barrel horses in Australia and they are standing their stud horse this year, Eyesa Sensation by the All American futurity winner, Eyesa Special”. Andi is Speed2Succeed’s Futurity/Derby co-ordinator and handles all of the sponsorships.
A “late starter” to the industry, Sue discovered her love for barrel racing and rodeos through her daughter, Chelsea, and her passion for the sport. Sue now travels to America every year and has a good knowledge of the industry in the USA. She is currently the barrel racing director for the Gympie Horse and Rodeo Association and competes most weekends. Sue is S2S’s events manager and co-ordinates our officials, prizes and the general running of the ‘Makin’ it Mega Series’.
Sheree, who grew up around horses most of her life started competing at novelty family fun days since she was 12 years old. Fast forward to 2012 and Sheree now has a collection of buckles in both team penning and barrel racing. Sheree has been very involved with the GHRA over the past few years as novelties director, barrel racing director and nominations secretary. Her two daughters are also involved in barrel racing. Sheree is well known for running an exceptional event and deals with all the memberships, nominations and payouts.
All three ladies met each other through the barrel racing industry; Sue and Andi hit it off instantly after meeting at a barrel race and learning they had the same dreams and goals as each other, while Sheree and Sue currently travel together on the circuit.
After seeing how barrel racing is run in America, the ladies joined forces with the hope to run a series of events that will keep raising the standard of barrel racing in Australia. Their mutual belief is for S2S to be professional, yet fun, that gives back to the competitors financially beyond their expectations. They want to see people’s dreams come true where competitors, promoters, associations, sponsors, businesses, media and the breeding industry all work together to lift the sport of barrel racing to a higher level each year.
